Making the Scene
Wednesdays, 7:00 PM
May 2 to June 27 (9 classes)
Raleigh Charter High School, 1307 Glenwood Avenue
Flying Machine students are no strangers to scene study as part of our Meisner Technique classes, but we've never dedicated a course exclusively to scene work, and we've never opened up the class to folks unfamiliar to our approach until now.
We believe a good scene is simple, honest, and personal. We believe a good scene is improvisational, that it is unique each time it’s performed. We believe that scene partners depend on and are fueled by connection: connection to each other and connection to what they are doing. We believe that emotion is a by-product of meaningful action, not a ploy to manipulate an audience.
Making the Scene focuses on bringing a script to life, step-by-step. The class is appropriate for students at different skill levels, with or without Meisner experience. It is not a beginning acting class, however, and experience either in acting classes or on stage is a prerequisite.
As a student you will work on several scenes during the nine-week course, and everyone will be given a monologue to work on as well. If you prefer, you may instead bring in a monologue of your choosing.
Meeting with scene partners outside of class is required.
Fee: $165, due before the first class.
Instructor: J Chachula
