Intro to Improv: From Saying "Yes" to Scenework
TBA at 7:00 PM
For more than 50 years acting students have known that improvisation is one of the best ways for an actor to sharpen their skills and connect with others on stage. Improvisers will also tell you it's one of the most fun things you can do in a theater. So why is it that most people think, "Oh, I could never do that"?
Oh, yes you can.
In this class we'll demystify and "de-stressify" the world of improvisation. Using classic theater games and exercises you'll learn the power in saying "yes", the wonderful surprises of collaborating with others and even how to turn your "happy accidents" into moments of inspiration.
This class is open to actors of all levels of ability and experience. No previous improv training is required.
Fee: $150, payable to Flying Machine, 613 Thistlegate Trl, Raleigh NC 27610
Location: Movie Makers Studios, 5502 Turkey Farm Rd, Durham NC. Directions here.
Dan Sipp began performing for area audiences in 1988 as a member of Transactors Improv Company and now serves as their co-director. He studied, performed and directed improvisation for eight years in Chicago. In 2006 he returned to the Triangle and ran the Worx Training Center in Raleigh for five years. Dan has taught workshops at numerous improv festivals around the country as well as classes for Duke University, UNC's Fuqua School of Business, Raleigh Little Theater and NASA.
