On Saturday, October 6th, we will be having our
4th annual Benefit for the Children of Safe
Passage. It will be a wonderful evening
beginning with a great silent auction filled
with fantastic items. Then we adjourn into the
theater for some outstanding entertainment:
Lise Uyanik and the Mobile City Band, Latin
rhythm favorites Saludos Compay, and the magic
of... me.
Safe Passage is the organization that cares for
hundreds of kids living and scavenging at the
enormous garbage dump in Guatemala City. I have
volunteered down there with them numerous
times. They do tremendous work in almost
unbearable circumstances. Working with Safe
Passage is at once heartbreaking and inspiring.
This year, our benefit takes on special meaning
because Safe Passage's founder Hanley Denning
was killed in a car accident in Guatemala a few
months ago. The project has recovered from the
tragedy amazingly well, and has found a new
director, but it needs our support this year
more than ever.
Details of the event can be found at
www.safepassagebenefit.com and you can link to
the main site for Safe Passage from there, to
get more general info about the project. If you
have any questions about the event or about
Safe Passage, please feel free to contact me
directly. Also, please feel free to forward
this email to all friends who might be
interested.
I consider it an honor to be involved with this
worthy organization, and I hope you'll come out
to have a great night and support a great
cause.
